Glossary of Terms
Coastal Catalyst is invested in expanding the knowledge of the Cultural Creative community.
We have made a conscious decision to include a glossary of Terms and Practices in our guide. The definitions come from a variety of sources as well as from the businesses that are listed here.
Alternative Animal (Pet) Therapies
Alternative Animal (Pet) Therapies are alternative healing practices that complement veterinary medicine. Energy healing, Reiki, massage, acupuncture, and animal communication are just a few of the many therapies available.
Aromatherapy uses plant materials and aromatic plant oils, including essential oils, and other aroma compounds for improving psychological or physical well-being.
An agent that provokes or speeds significant change or action.
A hypnotherapy technique that allows for the healing of traumas and limiting beliefs formed in our childhood. Many of our core beliefs about the world we live in, and how to survive in it, are formed at a young age. Sometimes the behaviors that kept us safe as children no longer benefit us as adults, and may actually hold us back from experiences we would rather be having.
Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM)
Any of the practices of alternative medicine, such as acupuncture or chiropractic, accepted and utilized by mainstream medical practitioners.
Cultural Creative is someone who is a designer of the future; the person is creating, collectively, a new culture. They are interested in lifestyles of health and sustainability. They see nature as sacred and have general green values. They care intensely about both psychological and spiritual development. They view relationships as important and have optimism about the future.
Cultural Creatives want to be involved in creating a new and better way of life in our country and are strongly aware of the problems of the whole planet and are activist for a better future. They are shifting the consciousness of consumerism because they don’t believe in financial materialism. Success is not a high priority but freedom and time to create and express themselves in the workplace is vital. This is the fastest growing market segment globally but because they are not talking openly about their viewpoints and values to each other, they often feel isolated.
